“Almost £2 billion of goods and services are purchased each year, in UK homes, from 450,000 full time and part time direct sellers. Over 70% of these sales are made through DSA member companies.”
The DSA was formed in 1965 to promote the highest standards of trading practice and consumer protection in direct sales. Members comply strictly with the DSA's Code of Practice - drawn up in consultation with the Office of Fair Trading - and are subjected to a detailed investigation by the DSA's independent code administrator both before and after being admitted into full membership. The result is that anyone buying goods or services from a DSA member is given a level of consumer protection that exceeds requirements provided by law; offers cancellation rights for both solicited and unsolicited transactions and provides an independent complaint resolution service that is binding on members whilst not incurring any cost to the complainant.

The following checks are welcomed by DSA members who know that the only sure way of building a business is by creating confidence in their integrity and in the quality of their products.
Good direct selling personnel carry literature describing their company and their products, containing the name, address and phone number of the company - so you can check that the caller is bona fide. Look out for the DSA logo for added protection.
Do NOT sign any form or contract until you are absolutely sure of the identity of the sales person and the company.
Do NOT hand over any cash or credit card details unless you are completely satisfied about the identity and credentials of the sales person. MAKE SURE you receive a printed receipt showing the name and address of the company that is supplying the goods and which includes your order cancellation rights.
BEWARE of verbal promises about special prices and terms of delivery. Look for confirmation in the company's literature.
CHECK the product you are offered is covered by a guarantee. DSA member companies offer unrivalled money back guarantees.
